Nolen Frisa Associates provided structural design and detailed drawings for this 11,000 square foot, 2-story addition to the student center and renovated approximately 5,800 square feet in the gymnasium, a 26,500 square foot facility originally built in the 1960s. The addition also renovated the existing locker rooms and upgraded the building’s lobby. The locker room renovation included space reconfiguration and the replacement of the wood-framed roof construction. This project is LEED-certified.
Project elements includes brick, masonry unit, cast-in-place concrete, depressed slab, elevator shaft and pit, concrete stair, stair support , structural steel framing, curtain walls, metal roof and floor decking, removal and replacement of the wood roof structure in the adjacent existing locker room area, steel joists, cold-formed metal framing, and other structurally-related material specifications. Components of the addition also include the foundations, underpinning, mechanical mezzanine framing plan, second-floor framing, roof framing, and exterior wall structural design, and basement/retaining wall design.
